Within the core product lines, manage and participate in product development projects that include: food safety, product compliancy and process improvement. Responsible for overseeing successful production runs of new products, ingredients and processes. Provides documentation that clearly communicates new formulas, procedures and process changes to support smooth transitions to production. Responsibilities also include providing technical support for the business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
This job entails the below listed essential duties:
Oversee and participate in new formula development. Insure formulas satisfy internal and external customers while being compliant for intended markets.
Review and approve written production instructions including M3 product structures.
Proactively work to prevent process or product failures and continuously improve product quality by working with operations to develop plans, process controls and training to ensure least cost, highest quality production.
Communicate with members of Operations, Marketing and Quality assurance on a regular basis to report progress on projects and receive feedback from the various departments to develop products that meet the internal customer’s expectations.
Participate in the investigation of market/product/production issues.
Oversee experimental records and evaluate experimental data.
As needed identify compliant replacement ingredients and suppliers.
Establish and run statistically based product, ingredient or process comparisons.
Provide ideas and concepts through prototypes.
Produce bench top/small scale production test batches. As requested, reverse engineer competitive product and develop equivalents.
Ability to apply broad range scientific knowledge to confectionery technology (including mogul depositing technology).
Conducts storage studies to test food safety and quality over the stated shelf life.
Strong project management skills to lead 5-15 projects at once.
Comfortable operating laboratory, pilot plant and plant equipment.
Strong written and verbal communication.
Self-starter with strong initiative to seek improvements.
As needed work with Cost Accounting to create preliminary costing.
Responsible for providing resources to oversee new product production runs.
Develops or updates methods and procedures for monitoring projects including logging expenditures, progress reports, and updating management.
Naturally blend in with fast paced product development.
Oversee proper storage of R+D tests and materials.
Collects technical information at technical trade shows.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide leadership and manage employees in the Product Development department in a way that ensures project timelines and personal objectives are met. Duties include hiring, performance management, training and development, managing work schedules.
