Working in a defined area of scientific expertise (sensory science), applies a solid background in standard methods and techniques in support of various sensory projects.
As part of a team, the position holder executes various sensory tests against established protocols in support of product development, technical marketing, research, process improvements, competitive intelligence and business support while respecting and upholding DSM Quality and SHE requirements and other relevant standards. The position holder has enhanced job knowledge within the field of sensory analysis.
Maintains laboratory instrumentation, sensory references, notebooks, records and data management as needed for analyses as well as ensuring a clean, organized and efficient laboratory environment.
Sets up and conducts sensory panels applying established sensory techniques, methods and protocols.
Analyzes and summarizes difference panel data using Minitab software and provides input on the study outcome.
Manages difference panel database.
Assists in recruiting, training and motivation of the internal and external panelists.
Monitors internal panelists’ performance and attendance.
Assists with descriptive analysis panel facilitation and data analysis.
Perform basic data analysis, summarize data and author reports as needed
Assists in writing protocols and scheduling work.
Prepares chemical references for descriptive analysis panels; adhering to safety guidelines and procedures including disposal of chemicals.
Assists in maintenance and troubleshooting of Compusense, sets up projects in Compusense.
Mentor technicians on proper lab technique.
Recommends updates of the SOPs when needed.
B.S. with 3+ years’ experience in sensory/food science lab environment.
Ability to accurately execute assigned tasks and apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify solutions to daily challenges.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to multitask and a high attention to detail.
Enhanced computer skills, including knowledge of most common IT programs (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel), Compusense.
Ability to apply basic statistical skills in the interpretation of sensory data.
