Position: Tenure-track Assistant Professor (9 month) position in Food Science. The successful candidate will join a 23-member faculty in the Department of Food Science, housed in the Philip E. Nelson Hall of Food Science on the main campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Biology/Microbiology, Immunology, Pharmacology, or other related field. A strong commitment to research and teaching in the area of botanicals with an emphasis on the chemistry/analysis and processing of phytochemicals as they relate to biological systems, health and disease. Strong teaching, communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving skills. High potential for establishing an externally funded research program.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized research program focused on the role of phytochemicals in health with an emphasis on the human gut, gut metabolism of these compounds and their impact on human physiology, immunity, and/or gut microbiome function. Research necessarily needs to be underpinned by strong analytical expertise. An interest in the role of phytochemicals at the interface of human-gut microbiome interactions is especially desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to secure external research funds, to advise graduate and undergraduate research students, to advance and disseminate knowledge, to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses, to function as an active member of the departmental and university faculty, and to engage in national and international professional activities.

Appointment and Salary: Assistant Professor (9 month; tenure-track). Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
