As Strategic Innovation Director, Meat Industry at Corbion, you will play a strategically important global industry-facing role, tapping into your scientific network, and years of launching new solutions to create and implement an Innovation Strategy aligned with the Industry strategy to grow the company’s meat and poultry business. Corbion Food has 3 industry segments: Bakery, Meat, and Sweet & Savory. The Meat segment is focusing on ingredients for Processed meat, Harvest Intervention and Petfood. The Strategic Innovation Director, Meat Industry will contribute to the development, communication and execution of a Meat strategy as part of a cross functional industry team.
The role will be measured on pipeline development and conversion to running business, annual revenue, and margin. The Strategic Innovation Director will work with established marketing, product management, market management, regulatory and Innovation (RD&A) teams and needs to manage these resources against the agreed plans.
Pre-Pipeline and Funnel Management (idea generation).
Translate the industry strategy into a strategic RDA plan to execute on the initiatives (regionally and globally) to ensure success.
Develop a balanced portfolio of projects, which support both the short term and long term business strategy.
Work as the liaison between the industry core team, the local RDA teams and the central RD&A.
Establish KPIs and ensure project quality by challenging RDA site directors on methodology, testing plan development, results interpretation, etc.
Work with Business Development Managers, external ingredient companies, associations & universities, and other groups to strengthen our solutions toolboxes and joint development partnerships.
Establish and implement external technology vetting process, and recommend technology to pursue.
Represent Corbion at scientific meetings with industry and customers, i.e., be the technical “face” of Corbion to industry
Masters or equivalent scientific experience in meat; PhD preferred but not required.
Strategic Business Acumen: MBA or equivalent (e.g. >10 years' experience in senior business development, RDA, and/or marketing roles).
Existing business relationships within meat industry.
Up to date working knowledge on innovation processes and project management, including awareness of business model development tools and open innovation partnership management.
Open and easy communicator: Able to listen well and work together with sales, marketing, operations, customers, application, product development and food micro.
Strategic thinker with experience developing long term business plans.
Self-starter: Able to initiate projects and bring new ideas into the organization.
Team-player: Builds on expertise of others, and is able to connect the dots.
Customer focus, drive for results/can-do mentality: Work with high motivation and passion to deliver results.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills: Work successfully in cross-functional teams and Matrix work environment.
May need to travel overnight 30-40%.
