The R&D Chef / Food Technologist will work alongside the Product Development Chef, collaborating with the Innovation team to take culinary concepts from the R&D kitchen to grocery store shelves. You will be working closely with our operations, and quality departments, sourcing new ingredients, and exploring new manufacturing processes. Our current portfolio includes FDA and USDA products, hot fill refrigerated, hot fill acidified, retort, and sous vide processing. We are continually innovating and expanding our offerings.
If you are passionate about food and the science behind it, eager to work with a small but dedicated team, a good communicator, able to follow directions, are both an analytical and creative thinker; then we would love to hear from you. An interest in Indian or other global cuisines is a definite plus. Participate in creative conceptualization of new products
Assist in creating formulas for benchtop samples
Make benchtop samples
Schedule and document the tastings of the benchtop samples, capturing changes for next round of development
Manage in-house supplies/ingredients
Communicate with ingredient suppliers for samples and documentation
Track and manage inventory of raw materials for ongoing and new development
Data documentation and record keeping
Maintain in-house sensory and specification standard sheets
Maintain product records, both in house and from co-manufacturers
Test in-house for pH, viscosity and other physical parameters on current products and new development
Setting up and leading product cuttings
Conduct regular product category reviews of current products and present culinary and process recommendations for improvement.
Preparing and shipping samples for customers and co-manufacturing partners
Maintain the organization and cleanliness in the test kitchen daily
BA in Culinary Arts, B.S. in Food Science, or Culinology degree, or CRC- Certified Research Chef
2 - 3 years’ experience with R&D
Strong communication and computer skills (Word, Excel, PPT)
Ability to problem-solve effectively and adapt to a quickly changing work environment
Good organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
Prefer an active member of IFT, RCA or similar Chef’s Association
Familiarity with FDA and USDA regulations for labeling
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to travel to manufacturing facilities (travel 10%)
