Land O’Lakes Venture37 is pleased to offer a volunteer position in Lebanon for someone with expertise in data management and analysis for the Farmer to Farmer Program. Your time is donated and all expenses such as airfare, lodging, meals and an interpreter are covered by the program.

Country: Lebanon Region: Adloun - South Lebanon
The host organization is a private company located in Adloun, South Lebanon, its main production is frozen French fries. Their production line has been launched after a deep understanding of market needs and trends. In 2011, the company entered the local market and gained rapid substantial reputation, and currently produces 15,000 tons of frozen French fries and employs around 134 full-time employees.
The host organization is aiming to reach a consistent product through well monitored production process. However, the host is facing some problems in analyzing data and linking the collected input and output data. The host organization is unable to measure and control quality through manufacturing process.
The host is facing some problems in analyzing data and linking the collected data to predict quality issues. The host needs assistance to identify the best method for data collection including locations of sensors, forms to be used for non-automated data, methods to be used to ensure integrity of data, and guidance on how to develop formulas that connects process input and output using a model.
In addition, the host is searching for an online monitoring program that suits their production and help originate deviations, mean, ranks and all required statistical data.
The host organization is interested in achieving these needs through applying the Statistical Process Control “SPC”. SPC is one of food safety and quality management system requirements that the company is willing to abide by.
A data management and analysis expert will aid the host organization in performing root cause analysis to control quality and reduce any losses that may occur from late actions against non-conformities.
To provide the host company with data flow and integration roadmap that helps to get a model of input and output for quality of fries.
To activate SPC monitoring and set upper control limit (UCL) & lower control limit (LCL) for all quality aspects.
To efficiently analysis the relation between process parameters and product quality
Host production efficiency improved
Host product quality monitored and maintained
SPC system put-in-place
Deliverables. Each volunteer must submit a Final Report to the F2F Program, which includes the following sections:
A. A summary of tasks and observations from site visits
B. A list of 3-5 specific and actionable recommendations for the host organization(s). The recommendations are very important to the program as we use them to track host adoption of recommendations and the impact on hosts’ farms and businesses. These recommendations will be reviewed during the debriefing session with country staff at the end of the assignment and the volunteer may make revisions to them in their Final Report.
C. A section listing the assignment objectives above and how they were met or why they were not met.
D. A short summary of the assignment with relevant photos that can be posted on the F2F volunteer blog.
Upon return to the United States, the volunteer is requested to communicate his or her F2F experience. Outlets to share the volunteer experience include home groups (e.g., civic and religious groups, professional associations, etc.), workplace presentations, local newspapers, community or workplace newsletters, personal blogs and social media sites. It is important to give recognition to USAID for funding F2F. At least two outreach events are requested and should be communicated to Aimee Foster at firstname.lastname@example.org and Sadie Paschke at email@example.com. Volunteers will receive occasional surveys requesting information about completed outreach activities during each period.
Key Experiences and Qualifications:
The recruited volunteer is expected to have the following skills and qualifications:
Educational Background: statistics, data scientist, or equivalent
Knowledge in improving quality systems through SPC (statistics process control) method.
More than 10 years of practical knowledge and experience in implementing data management and analysis in the food industry.
Experience in agro-processing firm producing frozen foods is beneficial.
Familiar with food safety and quality international management systems.
Aware of all statistical and analytical requirements applicable in modelling of quality of product.
Familiar with conducting trainings through translator/interpreter.
Requirement of the Program: Only U.S. citizens or Green Card holders are eligible to apply.
