The John Ogonowski and Doug Bereuter Farmer-to-Farmer Program provides technical assistance from U.S. volunteers to farmers, farm groups, agribusinesses, and other agriculture sector institutions in developing and transitional countries with the goal of promoting sustainable improvements in food security and agricultural processing, production, and marketing. The program leverages the expertise of volunteers from U.S. farms, universities, cooperatives, private agribusinesses, and nonprofit farm organizations to respond to the local needs of host-country farmers and organizations.
A small-scale milk processing facility is looking for a Cheese Making Specialist with significant business development experience. The volunteer will provide advice and trainings for several dairy processors in Southern Tajikistan on hardcheese production, dairy processing technology, packaging, new business development, quality control and hygiene, milk collection and distribution, plant operations, systems and policies.
While in-country, the Volunteer will:
Conduct a quick assessment of the dairyprocessing structure and facilities, evaluate skills of employees responsible for milk processing, and provide necessary trainings for milk processors skills improvement.
Conduct milkprocessing trainings in several districts. Conduct demonstrations on the production of hard cheeses.
Train the technical staff in maintaining high standards of biosafety, including hygiene for dairy processing equipment, tools, and utensils.
Train staff on requirements for food safety and hygienerelated to milk collection, storage, transportation, and processing of dairy products.
This assignment will last 2-3 weeks and all travel, lodging and meals will be provided.
University Degree in Food Technology preferred but not required
5-10 years of experience producing hard cheeses
Knowledge of quality control and distribution systems
Experience training small groups
Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
