Description: The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas invite applications for a 12-month, tenure-track position (40% Research; 35% Extension; 25% Teaching) in the area of food safety.
Responsibilities: Develop a nationally competitive and independent integrated research and extension education program in food safety that meets critical needs of the state. Focus areas may include microbial ecology in food production and manufacturing systems, food safety intervention technologies, and risk assessment of bacterial pathogens of foods. Conduct collaborative research as part of a multidisciplinary team for implementing farm to fork solutions to reduce foodborne pathogens in a wide range of food production systems. Extension responsibilities include providing training, resources, and information to key stakeholders in Arkansas so that they can comply with the requirements and standards outlined in the Food Safety Modernization Act. The candidate will provide expertise and interface with industry partners and other stakeholders including retailers, consumers, and various government agencies by developing educational programs and effective teaching tools for enhancing food safety. Responsibilities may include teaching core undergraduate course in food microbiology. The candidate will be expected to engage in supporting online masters in food safety program, recruit and advise graduate students, supervise undergraduate research, and secure extramural funding from a variety of sources including Federal, State, commodity, private, and industry sources. This position can have an appointment in the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas.

Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Food Science or a closely related field. Candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with other researchers and clientele groups.
Desired Qualifications: Experience in successful grant?writing, extension program development, and food safety/food microbiology experiences such as working in the food industry and/or regulatory/governmental agencies are highly desirable. Post-doctorate experience in a Food Safety related area will be considered a plus. Experience in the development of distance learning materials will be desirable.
