The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry within Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture is seeking applications for a 12-month, tenure-track position (70% Research, 30% Teaching). The position will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and located in Manhattan, KS. The successful individual will be expected to develop a nationally-recognized, externally funded research program in meat science. Applicants with research interests and expertise that target discoveries with the potential to be translated to improve meat quality are preferred. Participation in interdisciplinary efforts to enhance the Department’s research in focus areas including nutrition, breeding and genetics, reproductive physiology, food science and others is strongly encouraged. Opportunities exist to form multidisciplinary groups with faculty in Veterinary Medicine, Biology, Biochemistry and others. Teaching and mentoring responsibilities would be consistent with the successful individual’s expertise, interests, and needs of the Department. It is expected that the successful individual develops a dynamic graduate training program.
Position Description and Responsibilities:
The successful individual will:
Develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized meat science research program that is competitive and extramurally funded
Demonstrate a strong commitment to team-oriented research
Provide high-quality and impactful instruction to graduate and undergraduate students
Deliver excellence in mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students and commitment to the development and success of students
Participate in management of Meat Science laboratories
Participate in Meat Science, departmental, college, and university committees, activities, and programs
Ph.D. in Meat Science, Animal Science or Food Science at the start of employment
Knowledge and experience in meat science
Demonstrated potential for excellence in research
Interest or demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in meat, animal or food science and training graduate students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience and knowledge in the meat and food industry
Demonstrated ability and/or desire to obtain extramural funding
Proven academic publication record that is consistent with experience level
Ability and enthusiasm to teach meat science courses such as Growth and Development
Experience conducting and/or leading collaborative, interdisciplinary research
Experience in graduate and undergraduate advising
Desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and advance the university’s commitment to collegiality, diversity, and inclusivity
