Impossible Foods is looking for experienced, motivated and mission-aligned Senior Managers/Principal Scientists to join the Product Innovation Department. The overarching goal of the group is to design, research & develop uncompromisingly delicious plant-based products to drive a consumer movement to eliminate animal agriculture. We are looking for people who are highly developed experimentalists, analytical thinkers, and are creative problem solvers.
The primary responsibility for this role is leading a group of Scientists and Research Associates to research and/or develop innovative plant-based products. We are looking for people with a proven track record in research, product innovation or development. As a team leader, s/he will be supervising several Scientists and Research Associates. S/he will be guiding their research, helping with experiment design and engineering solutions, and mentoring their scientific development.
We are hiring team leads in the areas of New Product Development, Product Research, Product Applications and Ingredient Discovery under this posting. Outside of the group, s/he will be expected to establish strong cross-functional interactions, in particular with Product Commercialization, Discovery, Sourcing, Material Science, Analytical Science, Sensory Science, and Product Management. They will also work directly with external suppliers and collaborators. We are looking for a leader who can inspire, generate ideas, manage a team and drive products forward.
Lead a group of Scientists and Research Associates working in the areas of New Product Research or Development
Lead the design, coordination and development of new products through concept to pilot plant and ensure products are ready to pass to the commercialization team
Drive the creation of new food prototypes leveraging new and existing food texturization processes, food processing methods, flavor technology and novel ingredients
Lead new technology development to create the best products
Lead flavor research within complex product matrices
Integrate technologies into new products
Bring consumer-focused thinking to design, innovation, and development in new and existing food products
Compile and create analytical and sensory assays to test ingredients functionally that are predictive of product behavior
Collaborate with Innovation Sourcing to identify new technology and improve ingredients through partnerships with external suppliers
Lead cross-functional collaboration
Generate new products that are both fresh and creative, while also having the ability to work inside constraints
Voice ideas, concerns and solutions to teammates
Participate in internal sensory panels
Ph.D. in Food Science, Biochemistry, Material Science, Engineering, or similar field
15+ years of experience in New Product Innovation, Applied Research or Development
Proven track record for creating innovative new products and/or discovering new technologies
5+ years of experience managing a team
An experimentalist with extensive use of the scientific method
Ability to thrive in a diverse, dynamic team
Self-starter that is naturally curious and enjoys working in a fast-past environment
Experience with novel food processing, creating new textured materials, Flavor-Texture interactions, and/or sensory science is strongly desired
Ability to continuously challenge assumptions to seek innovative solutions
