The Poultry Science Center of Excellence and the Department of Food Science are recruiting a grant support specialist who will be responsible for preparing, coordinating, and submitting a portfolio of highly competitive, technical and/or complex grant proposals/applications for Poultry Science and Food Science Research Initiatives. The program specialist must demonstrate the ability to work independently and proactively, yet function in a collaborative team environment, exhibit self-reliance, dependability, trustworthiness, good listening skills, and an ability to form effective working partnerships with colleagues; must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, solve problems and meet challenging and changing deadlines; demonstrate superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies in a professional manner; exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills; maintain tact and diplomacy working with a wide variety of personalities; and, exhibit a high degree of professionalism, ethical sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion with a proven ability to apply good judgment and responsible decision-making.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Technical grant writing experience. • Familiarity with a variety of proposal submission portals (USDA, NIH, NSF). • Experience in writing and proofreading successful grant proposals. • Communication skills to interact with diverse groups of individuals to research, secure and/or provide information, clarify situations, resolve problems, and ensure cooperation among individuals. • Organization and time management skills to coordinate projects and people, prioritize and track multiple projects simultaneously, and to meet critical deadlines. • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Technical and/or creative writing experience. • High level of computer proficiency required. Must have advanced working knowledge of the Windows environment (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Cloud) as well as expert knowledge, mastery, and fluency with building internet and web queries, manipulating and retrieving data from complex database sources, managing news alerts technologies, and using electronic subscription services.

About the College/Department
The Center of Excellence for Poultry Science is a multidisciplinary research, teaching, and extension center comprised of the Department of Poultry Science, and faculty representing the Cooperative Extension Service, the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, the USDA-ARS, the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, and the National Ag Law Center. The Poultry Science Department offers Undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D. programs. The Department of Food Science is responsible for advancing knowledge and technology associated with the discipline of Food Science through effective education, research and outreach programs within the Land Grant Mission of the University of Arkansas. Food Science faculty have established very productive research programs involving microbial food safety, food chemistry, sensory analysis, advanced food manufacturing, processing and nutrition with foods originating from plant and animal sources important to Arkansas. Faculty members have been successful in securing external funding to support their research programs.
