The Regulatory Compliance Specialist provides insight to help determine company decisions associated with Food Labeling Regulations, Raw Materials Data Management, and new product launches based on extensive knowledge of Food and Supplement Regulations. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a history of sound judgment and critical thinking in resolving challenges. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist reports to the Director of Quality Assurance & Compliance.
Responsibilities include: - Responsible for the development of, weight statement, ingredient statement, allergen declaration, descriptions, nutrition facts panel and claims compliant with government requirements and standard of identities. This includes ensuring compliance with all label related health and wellness claims. - Work cooperatively with external vendors, and internal staff to ensure that packaging and marketing content that meets the needs of all business units and regulatory requirements - Evaluate regulatory issues and provide accurate and timely recommendations, as needed, to management. - Maintain all regulatory files/databases and chronologies in good order. Establish and maintain systems for tracking changes in documentation. - Be able to understand and prepare Company Product List and review labeling for compliance with regulatory requirements. - Carry out the completion of country-specific Product Compliance forms when required. - Maintain good relationships with suppliers and customers. - Generate and approve food label information including ingredient declarations, allergens, nutrition facts panels, and claims to assure compliance with both USDA (Organic) and FDA labeling requirements. - Document various work according to established procedures and guidelines, provides timely and effective oral and written communication and prepares reports to project team to ensure complete communication of project status, progress, issues, solutions, timeline, and accountability. - Assist with maintaining 3rd party GFSI audit documentation to ensure compliance. - Maintain current knowledge of FDA, USDA, GMP, HACCP, and government agencies and follow the standards applicable to the products and processes. - Engage in cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Marketing/Sales, Operations and Customer Service teams - Other duties as required
Requirements: - Bachelor of Science degree Food Science, Nutrition, Biological Sciences, or related field - 3+ years of experience in regulatory compliance within the food/supplement industry - Familiarity in food/supplement law, regulations, and claims - Proficient in Word, Excel, and MS office programs. - Experience with Food/Supplement Product Development Software (Genesis) a plus - Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. - Highly organized, self-directed, detail oriented and able to multitask. - Enjoys working in a fast paced, ever-changing work environment. - A passion for Laird Superfood’s Vision and Mission!
