The Product Development Manager will be a key team member in the development of new innovation ideas. Additionally be a key stakeholder in building the brand integrity and quality for new line extensions in the shelf stable sauces, vinegar, mixed oil categories and beyond.
Manage and create formulations for new products and existing product development modifications from chef experience to benchtop samples to commercialization.
Responsible to develop technical aspect of all non-Oil specifications for finished goods for quality verification checks.
Responsible for creating new formulations in coordination with Marketing ideation firms and copacker capabilities.
Develop formula pricing and aid in the sourcing suppliers for copackers to execute to in accordance with the company vendor requirements.
Responsible for managing all formulations in Genesis for Nutritional development under the direction of the Director of Technical Services.
Responsible for key Technical evaluation and ownership of technical details on specifications of New Product Innovation projects in COR product development software including but not limited to- technical review and support for building marketing story, guidance documentation for labels, nutritional’s, key call outs, chemical parameter controls, formula development and management of internal and Copacked items.
Responsible for FDA and CDPH formula registration and management for acidified foods.
Project Manage when applicable 3rd party R&D firms for formula development beyond our capabilities.
With Technical Services and Marketing work on product use examples i.e. recipe development.
Responsible for all Copacked first production run on site management and review of products as relates to product quality.
Responsible for formula CDPH and FDA filing for food registration.
Create Guidelines, Processes, procedures, and any associated training tools related to the Product Development process’ and new items.
Organizes and manages moderately complex test runs to validate or modify experimental formulas and processing procedures to develop final specifications to produce finished products and ensure reproducibility.
Work with laboratory staff to develop and conduct new product shelf life studies.
Conduct regular product cuttings of all non-oil products for Technical Services, Exec, and Marketing to evaluate products vs. competitor.
Provides technical solutions to production issues as it relates to ingredient, formulas, processing procedures, and specifications to ensure continuous production of existing products and maintain product quality and safety.
Supports innovation in the development of new ideas, new products or new product platforms through ideation sessions and bench top experimentation, along with the ability to effectively communicate the concept for non-oil items.
4 year Bachelors degree, in Food Science or related field
Culinary certificate or degree a plus (CIA or similar)
Better Process Control School certificate a plus
Experience in R&D or Product Development in food industry 4+ years (Food Facility or R&D Company) in the sauces, vinegar and shelf stable category.
Experience with Genesis software for Nutritional Development
HACCP Certified or a strong knowledge of HACCP based systems a plus
Valid California Driver’s License
