Position Summary: This position will function as primary SQF Practitioner and is responsible for preparing WBC for Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certification and ongoing validating and verifying that SQF programs are in place and being enforced. The position will actively participate in teams across the Plant and Corporate to drive continuous improvement in food safety, quality and defense.

The SQF Practitioner is responsible for the coordination, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the WBC SQF System, Food Safety Plans and HACCP. These shall meet or exceed standards as required by FSMA, PDA, FDA, and SQF and in accordance with customer specifications and industry standards. This includes but is not limited to SOP’s, GMP’s, SSOP’s, Logs and records that verify compliance.
The SQF Practitioner shall provide advice and report on the WBC SQF System, Food Safety Plans and HACCP matters to the WBC Management Team, HACCP Team, and to the relevant department Supervisors including progress with implementation of the systems, identifying non-conformance issues and trends and recommending solutions and system improvements.
Partner across the plant and corporate departments to communicate and address any non-conformances to SQF standards.
Function as primary SQF practitioner and is responsible for validating and verifying that SQF programs are in place and being enforced.
Review and manage all records, training, communication, etc. related to SQF certification system.
Lead documentation management across the plant to ensure document control standards are met. Perform final review of all changes to documents through ETQ.
Facilitate face to face food safety training, GMP and SQF training as needed across the plant.
Lead plant internal monthly and external annual SQF audit. Create and coordinate schedule, develop checklists and generate reports.
Lead corrective action and root cause analysis for audit non-compliances, customer complaints, EMP/SEP/Pre-op trends and QHOLD’s per the SQF code. Work with cross functional teams on root cause and follow through on corrective actions.
Take part in all third party audits and regulatory inspections at the plant, maintain inspection ready status for WBC.
Work cross functionally to develop and manage a quality plan and critical quality points (CQPs) for Level 3 certification. Maintain Level 3 certification once obtained.
Attend SQFI seminars or training classes to stay current on SQF code and guidance.
Oversee the food safety vendor management program for WBC and perform Wawa audits periodically at vendor facilities.
Keep current with key quality assurance programs and department operation by working closely with the Quality Assurance Manager and Lab team. Perform other duties as needed to support the Quality Management System at WBC.
Bachelor’s Degree preferably in biology, chemistry, food science or related area preferred
5-7 years of experience required in quality assurance, Dairy experience a plus
Previous SQF Practitioner experience
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certified and/or Preventative Control Qualified Individual (PCQI)
Food Defense Qualified Individual preferred
