We’re hiring a Product Developer to join our integrated R&D team to focus on product development of Cakes, based out of our bakery in Lebanon, IN. The role requires a highly technical food scientist who has ideally worked in bakery before, developing new formulations for key customers from scratch and providing oversight to the entire production process. You’ll formulate batters, filling and icings, run plant trials, pressure-test quality standards in production, and partner cross-functionally to ensure our highest standards are met at every step in the commercialization process.
Lead key product optimization initiatives to improve bakery performance, providing a technical, food science perspective.
Provide technical information to support manufacturing, sales and marketing.
Support procurement by evaluating and testing new and alternative raw materials
Keep updated on Bakery and Baking Ingredient Technology
Contribute to business objectives by developing, formulating and testing new products to meet customer requirements.
Identify areas to optimize cost in current formulations without impacting product quality.
Ensure the products meet standards before market introduction/launch.
Build critical relationships with private label customers.
Develop partnerships with raw material
Follow the New Product Development Process including all documentation procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Actively update Sales and Marketing on progression of
Communicate conclusions and recommendations of new product testing in an accurate and timely manner.
Effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
Partner with Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Marketing, Quality, Sales, and other departments as needed.
Skills and Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science, or related
1 or more years’ experience in Product Development
Experience working and collaborating to problem solve in a manufacturing environment.
Strong oral and written communication
Able to juggle many tasks and prioritize as needed.
Highly organized and able to plan ahead to deliver against multiple requests.
Critical thinker with the ability to apply food science principles to solve technical problems.
Team player, able to partner with a variety of different functions (regulatory, packaging, supply chain, category, sales).
PC, Product Vision, word processing and spreadsheet
This role may spend time (up to 1 day/wk) at our Brownsburg, IN location.
Travel 15% (Travel significantly reduced in the short term due to COVID-19).
Relocation assistance is available for this opportunity.
