Winrock International requests the support of a remote Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for volunteer assignment supporting a host located in Orefonde, Matam, Senegal. The US based volunteer will work with a local Senegalese volunteer to train the designated host organization - Local Association for the Consultation of Producer Organizations (CLCOP) group members and processors on best practices for processing fruits and vegetables using natural methods for food safety and hygienic practices. The association is especially interested in making homemade preserves, jams, juice, and concentrate juice. They would also like to learn about drying, processing, and storing, okra, tomato, onion, hibiscus, and baobab. The volunteer will provide participants with theoretical and technical knowledge that will allow them to work independently.
Fully Remote No expectation of in-person travel; The volunteer will provide technical assistance using only communications tools and transfer of supporting materials.
The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:
University degree in agriculture, food science, or related field
Experience using modern and efficient equipment for fruits and vegetable processing
Experience in fruit and vegetable processing, including experience training others
Ability to remotely work with a local volunteer to train women groups
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
French language skills preferred but not mandatory
