The Kopec lab is seeking a PhD student for a fully funded USDA National Needs Fellowship, to study "Metabolomics Across the Food System."

The lab focuses on lipid soluble nutrient-nutrient/nutrient-bioactive interactions in the gastrointestinal tract and the brain, using both targeted and untargeted lipidomics/metabolomics to study their effects on the biomarkers of health and disease. The planned PhD project would focus on elucidating the role of dairy-based probiotics and dairy-based fat-soluble vitamins in influencing metabolome-microbiome interactions in the gastrointestinal tract.

The successful candidate would be enrolled as early as Autumn 2022 in OSU’s Interdisciplinary PhD Nutrition Program (https://osun.osu.edu/) under the direct supervision of Dr. Rachel Kopec (https://u.osu.edu/kopec.4/2018/07/24/welcome-to-the-kopec-lab/).

Applicants should either be a U.S. citizen or from U.S. Territories (requirements from funding agency). They should have a B.S. or M.S. degree in Human Nutrition, Chemistry, Biology, or Biochemistry, or a strongly-related discipline, and be motivated to work on interdisciplinary research with collaborators in food science, nutrition, bioinformatics, and medicine.
