Job Overview

This role is responsible to support Hostess Brands’ organization in the area of Research & Development for new product development. The Sr. Food Technologist will manage multiple projects with varying degrees of difficulty and will contribute to portions of more complex technical projects as part of the larger team. Will be responsible for planning and conducting tests, analyzing and evaluating the data, and formulating conclusions to accomplish department goals. This position will play a key role in leading product development efforts with our co-manufacturers along with managing projects at our product development third party partner.

Responsibilities

Food product commercialization for innovation, cost savings, and product renovation, including utilizing co-manufacturers and third-party product developers.
R&D lead on cross functional teams regarding Stage Gate development project.
Provide excellent skills in areas of formulation development, leveraging knowledge on moisture management, shelf-life, and great tasting foods.
Develop and design finished product specifications and gain alignment from Quality, Operations, and Marketing teams
Ensure plant commercialized for meets sensory and shelf life requirements
Develop and implement technologies to support both new product and ingredient development
Maintain and improve existing ingredients and products.
Work collaboratively with experts on the team to understand product performance.
Coordinate all documentation that supports the final product formulation
Generate and maintain accurate and complete records, including official lab notebook and utilization of the on-line specification system.
Become subject matter experts (SMEs) on plant production processes
Perform additional R&D duties as assigned.

Qualifications

7-10 year’s minimum experience in the food industry working in R&D and/or product development.
Product development experience in Product Development/ Qualification/Launch
Experience with specification management systems
Proven track record of commercialization experience with food or beverage products is required
Experience with fried donuts, grain-based sweet cakes a preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required.
Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork skills are a must.
Able to maintain work area neat and organized.
Strong ability to identify potential product /packaging quality opportunities.
Good time management and multitasking skills
Excellent leader, communicator, and trainer
Ability to influence and lead people and decisions in situations absent of a direct reporting structure
Ability and willingness to take action
Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills
Willingness to accept 40% travel
