The Department of Biological Systems Engineering (College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences) seeks a 12-month, full time tenure-track position in the rank of Assistant Professor in food engineering. The position has primarily research and teaching responsibilities with the expectation of contributing to outreach and extension activities. The successful candidate will establish a competitive and independent research and teaching program in food engineering. The candidate should: develop new scientific knowledge and provide sound engineering solutions to address consumer and industry needs; effectively integrate with existing research and teaching programs in the department on food process engineering and packaging technologies; develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of food processing and food engineering; contribute to new online degree programs, write proposals to secure extramural funds from state, regional and national grant sources, private foundations and companies. The program should be based on scientific, and stakeholder needs and effectively integrate with other disciplines such as other engineering disciplines as well as food, materials, computer, and health sciences. Other responsibilities include advising graduate and undergraduate students, mentoring student activities/organizations, and serving the university, college, department, and professional organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Earned Ph.D. in Food Engineering or closely related field.
Demonstrated knowledge in food engineering, food processing or related engineering fields.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies.
Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching and mentoring.

Desired

Demonstrated research experience in food process engineering, food safety and food quality.
Demonstrated ability to develop and teaching food engineering, food processing and related undergraduate and graduate courses.
Evidence of scholarship through publication in peer reviewed journals related to food engineering, food science and related fields.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with food, package, and equipment companies and food related regulatory and governmental agencies.
Evidence of securing extramural grant funds, and in project management.
Record of active participation in academic and/or professional organizations.
Experience with curriculum development.
