About Biological Systems Engineering, Washington State University
Washington State University (WSU), founded in 1890, is a comprehensive land-grant university with teaching, research, and extension missions, and one of two research universities in Washington State. WSU is organized into ten academic colleges, the Honors College, and the Graduate School. WSU strongly values diversity among its faculty, staff, and students and seeks to ensure a welcoming community for all.The Department of Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) offers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Biological and Agricultural Engineering with area of emphasis: ((i) Food Engineering, (ii) Bioenergy and Bioproducts Engineering, (iii) Agricultural Automation Engineering, and (iv) Land, Air, Water Resources & Environmental Engineering. BSE is part of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences; employs 17 full time faculty members placed at f...our Washington State locations- Pullman, Tri-Cities, Prosser and Puyallup. BSE faculty manage Center of Excellence for Food Safety; Center for Nonthermal Processing of Food; Bioproducts, Science, and Engineering Laboratory, Center for Precision & Automated Agricultural Systems. More than 80 graduate students are currently enrolled in PhD and MS degree programs, three engineers and three technical staff support research activities. BSE students actively participate in Graduate Student Clubs including Food Engineering; Agricultural Automation and Engineering; American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Biomass Engineering. Food Engineering research laboratories are housed in the same building for School of Food Science, thus providing excellent opportunities for close collaboration with faculty in food microbiology, chemistry and sensory research.For more information visit https://bsyse.wsu.edu
