This position is responsible for the regulatory aspects related to product development and launching. The individual is responsible for researching claims and product labeling requirements and making recommendations for meaningful marketing claims that can be made on specific products and materials. The Regulatory and Labeling Specialist is also responsible for reviewing and ensuring accuracy of product packaging. This position provides direction for international food regulatory requirements necessary to import products into other countries; in addition, it keeps up to date and maintains product certification, regulatory databases for packaging and raw materials.
Review current and new packaging for accuracy and compliance.
Conduct Theoretical Analysis of New Products and products under development as needed to prepare nutritional facts panel, ingredient list and Nutritional Data Sheets.
Research claims and regulatory items for packaging/marketing claims, provide recommendations for regulatory direction in items requiring potential market action.
Create and maintain regulatory labeling databases for raw materials, finished product packaging, product claim sheet, and other departmental technical information.
Function as a technical resource for Marketing, Scientific and Clinical Affairs, Product Development, Procurement, and QA as directed.
Evaluate ingredients for regulatory compliance.
Verify digital product information, marketing material product information.
Develop and maintain product certification compliance for Kosher, Gluten Free, Halal, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
This individual is responsible for working cross departmentally primarily with Marketing, inventory and procurement departments on the development of packaging. This job requires a very accurate person with a very strong attention to detail to successfully complete the job requirements. This person must also be able to provide context to the regulatory definitions and help management accurately interpret the intent behind, and risk associated with the regulation.
Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities
MS or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, or related field
3-6 years working experience in a food, OTC, pharmaceutical manufacturing company, in Consumer Goods labeling, Regulatory, QA, R&D, or Food Safety roles. Experience in supplements is plus.
Strong knowledge of US and some International food regulations and ability to research related to food claims and requirements, especially in APAC and North American
Knowledge of food science, health and nutrition, food manufacturing processes, quality assurance principles, ingredient supply market and market research practices
Develop and maintain the product certification compliance for Kosher, Gluten Free, Halal, etc.
Organization and presentation skills
Proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Proficiency with ESHA Genesis for labeling development
Collection, documentation, analysis and interpretation of data
Knowledge of food processing and manufacturing methods, particularly Baking, Extrusion, RTD beverages, food supplements and dry blending
Good verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills and the ability to work with professional and nonprofessional personnel
Being active with related regulatory associations
Team oriented, detail oriented, critical thinking
Ability to set priorities and deliver on deadlines
