Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees and manages Maui Food Innovation Center (MFIC) food manufacturing and Research and Development (R&D) facilities to ensure compliance with international, federal, state and local health and safety regulations regarding food manufacturing facilities, equipment operation, and sanitation. Develops and implements procedures to promote appropriate communication and information sharing. Provide expertise and leadership of curricular and business development. Conduct continuous and extensive outreach to local residents and community stakeholders to identify short-term professional development courses such as entrepreneurship, agribusiness, value-added product development, etc. Complete and maintain business plans according to community/stakeholders' feedback and needs/demands identifies, as well as best practice and sustainable operation models available. Supervises MFIC staff (such as facilities/operations manager, sales coordinators, food technologists). Leverages entrepreneurial/business background to foster relationships with leaders across sectors and identify new opportunities for collaboration and growth. Manages relationships with MFIC partnering organizations as well as requirements for local authorities and project funders. Reinforces existing operating policies and procedures consistent with best practices. Ensures that all operations are carried out in conjunction with University, local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations. Support the development of communication and marketing materials to support outreach/promotion and fundraising efforts. Manages consultants/vendors, as needed. In partnership with staff, measures and evaluates the results of the MFIC operations, and regularly reports these results to the project leadership team. Recommends changes as necessary to Improve operations. Assists in the development of program resources through such avenues as tuition revenues, grant writing, partnerships, agency contracts or other extramural funding opportunities. Establish and maintain relationships with employers, government, industry, education and community representatives to identify training needs and funding resources to develop innovative training programs. Implement programs, workshops, custom trainings, and seminars for special target groups. Ensure market research and trends inform and guides the MFIC. Occasional evening or weekend hours for meetings and events. Other duties as assigned.
The Maui Food Innovation Center (MFIC) is located at the University Hawaii Maui College campus. MFIC is a food business incubator which serves to foster and accelerate the growth and education of agribusinesses and food entrepreneurs. As a part of Maui College, MFIC is helping to build a stronger, more economically diverse, and sustainable Maui Nui by supporting the value-added food industry. MFIC assists its community by providing technological expertise, innovative training, industry consultation, a state of the art manufacturing facility, and a resource hub for new and established food entrepreneurs endeavoring to bring their products to market locally, regionally, and nationally.
