We are seeking an experienced QUALITY MANAGER to be responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable food regulations, assuring that all products meet regulations and providing leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understand and comply with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards (i.e., IFS)
Implementation, documentation, control and maintenance of detailed Quality Management Systems, including procedures, records, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and reassessment
Writes, reviews and revises facility SOP's to align with corporate objectives. Updates Food Safety and Quality Plans as needed
Maintain and improve on the safety, legality and quality of each food, and the processes used in their manufacture
Day-to-day management of the QA/QC teams at all facility locations, including training and development of staff and clear identification of objectives to meet Company needs
Meet and exceed customer requirements and effectively communicate with customers as needed
Investigate customer/consumer complaints for products manufactured on site using root cause analysis; determine corrective actions and preventative measures; respond to customer complaints in the required timeframe and analyze complaint trends
Clearly communicate food safety and quality objectives with production, maintenance, janitorial and external contractors
Report food safety and quality issues, corrective actions and preventative measures to the Management Team
Ensure training is effective for operations, sanitation and maintenance staff in basic food hygiene, GMP's, HACCP, allergen control and other food safety and quality requirements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Production, Operations and R&D, to resolve quality-related issues and implement process improvements
Measure plant process capabilities, sampling plans and statistical analysis to assure compliance
Ensure physical plant inspections are conducted on a monthly basis and reports are generated for each area (pest control, operational methods, maintenance for food safety, sanitation, personnel practices, etc.)
Implement all necessary preparations for any audit at any facility, including notification to all parties/departments concerned of their audit responsibilities and ensure all procedures are compliant and current prior to any scheduled or un-scheduled audit
Designated technical representative for Company at customer and third-party audits at any facility location
Assure materials are received from approved suppliers and conduct raw material supplier performance monitoring
Effectively implement Company's Recall and Traceability Program, including accurate and timely mock traceability exercises
Provide technical advice and direction with respect to Company's food safety and quality policies, keeping Management Team informed of applicable scientific, industry and regulatory changes
Minimum 5 years food industry senior level quality management experience combined with demonstrated track record of QA/QC accomplishments
Experience with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards; IFS experience preferred
HACCP Certification
Extensive experience preparing and leading any customer and third-party audits to a successful outcome
Minimum bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology or Food Science
Excellent leadership, communications, training and team building skills
Must be able to travel to all Company facilities (California and Pennsylvania) to address training, issues and audits
Must be able to attend to the needs of the Q.C. departments, in person, at both facilities in California for all shifts daily
Must be always accessible via in-person or electronic communications, to address and immediate situations requiring management participation or resolution implementation
Good writing, statistical, analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to effectively respond to the concerns of managers, subordinates, customers and regulatory agencies
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
Computer skills on MS platform
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
