The Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences (HNFAS) at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (UHM) invites applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in human nutrition and dietetics.
The department seeks candidates whose research is centered on human nutrition. Candidates with multi/interdisciplinary research experience (e.g., nutrition, clinical nutrition, public health, community nutrition, or sports nutrition) are encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates shall possess a promising record of scholarship, a strong research agenda, and be able to support students through advising and mentorship. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, minimizing barriers, and increasing equity and completion rates among different demographics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop a research program in human nutrition and conduct nationally and internationally recognized research in nutrition, working with internal collaborators in the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources as well as partners (e.g., academia, government, and industry) outside the university.
Teach undergraduate nutrition courses such as Medical Nutrition Therapy, Lifespan Nutrition, Nutrition in Sports and Exercise, and a graduate course in the individual's area of expertise.
Advise/guide undergraduate and graduate students preparing for professional and technical careers in Food and Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics.
Obtain extramural funds to support human nutrition related programs
Participate in departmental, college and university affairs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate in nutrition or closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing.
Demonstrated ability or evidence of potential to teach college-level nutrition classes.
A record of peer-reviewed publications and other scholarship in human nutrition research commensurate with the candidate’s career level.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential
Demonstrated proficiency in research related to human nutrition, including clinical nutrition, public health, community nutrition, and/or sports nutrition.
Robust research credentials with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in human nutrition.
Postdoctoral or equivalent research and teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to secure extramural competitive grant funding.
Experience in teaching and course development at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Demonstrated excellent oral and written English communication skills.
Demonstrated effective leadership, teamwork, and team building skills to work collaboratively, independently, and harmoniously with other people.
Experience with mentoring peers, mentees, and/or students (undergraduate and graduate).
Active involvement in professional societies or service related to nutrition.
Experience with course- and program-level assessments.
